*This course is open to enrollment for both DVMs and RVTs.  DVM-RVT Teams signing up and attending together will enjoy a $299 discount on the course fees.  

While you can register independently, due to the Team Approach to the lesson plans, DVMs are recommended and encouraged to attend with their technician and vice-versa.

About this one-day workshop:

Welcome to Dental “Toothcamp”!

This combined DVM and Veterinary Technician 2.5-day course drills down on the fundamentals of learning and applying dentistry knowledge to enhance your practice. With lectures such as “A Team-Based Approach to Dentistry,” “Addressing Client Communication Challenges,” “Maximizing Dentistry Opportunities in Your Practice,” and “Keeping Dentistry Safe-Ergonomics and Workspace Solutions,” you can look forward to gaining practical insights and strategies that will directly benefit your work and your patients. Focusing each team on the BIG PICTURE: Happy Clients and Healthy Pets

Master the art of oral examination and charting, using a 4- handed approach and American Veterinary Dental College Abbreviations. Gain confidence in recognizing normal oral anatomy and common pathology.

  • Instrumentation for periodontal therapy, root-planing, and saving teeth.
  • Pain management through the use of regional nerve blocks

Meet Your Instructors:

Dr. Naomi Hoyer, DAVDC

Naomi is a Board-Certified Veterinary Dentist, Assistant Professor of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, and Dentistry Service Leader at Colorado State University James L Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital. She graduated from CSU with her DVM in 2002 and worked in general practice for 10 years before pursuing speciality training in dentistry. She became board-certified in 2017. She left private practice in 2018 to begin teaching because of her passion for dentistry education. Her professional interests include congenital maxillofacial defects and regional anaesthesia. When she’s not admiring teeth, she spends time with her family, running, hiking, reading, or knitting!

Benita Altier, LVT, VTS (Dentistry)

Benita began her career in veterinary technology in 1988 and has worked in small animal general medicine, ophthalmology, equine and llama neonatal care, canine reproduction, and dental speciality. Benita is the current President of the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians and a Member at large for the Arizona Veterinary Technician Association. She has contributed to two textbooks on veterinary dentistry and published several articles in professional journals. Through her business, Pawsitive Dental Education LLC, she has provided professional dental instruction and consultation to veterinary hospitals and conferences across the US, Canada, and China.
